Workshops

I have taught comic creation, storytelling and illustration workshops for children, teenagers and adults
in collaboration with art schools, local libraries and municipalities.

Sóla Eva Workshops

Four day Comic Book workshop for ages 10-14 at the Library of Hafnarfjörður summer 2022. We drew numerous locations and made up stories fit for its surroundings; played different storytelling and devising games with dice and improv; created characters inspired by different animals, styles and flora; read comics and manga during drawing breaks, and made up entire comic books, and in some cases, a series of comic books. The workshop ended in a summer long art exhibit.

During my workshops we often start with an exciting location, and then discuss who lives there or what takes place there. Students then choose what they want to create in a singular image based on that location. Then individually, I support the student as an organic storyteller by asking them questions about their drawing, so that they may create a comic that excites them based on the characters, objects and character’s objective we discussed. We also play simple and collaborative games, to show different, light and fun entryways to creating stories.

During brief lectures, I showcase different art styles, characters, use of framing, use of colours, shapes and different types of comics. My workshops emphasise that you don’t have to be an advanced illustrator to create engaging comics. The workshop’s aim is to increase young people’s confidence as organic storytellers, while nurturing their skillset and increasing their understanding for visual and storytelling arts.
