Reykjavík Fringe Festival

Reykjavík Fringe Festival’s official poster 2023.

I wanted to represent the location, migration of performers, and the fun, collaborative, joyful, and creative atmosphere of a fringe festival. I imagined a festival that would be so contagious, not even the flora and fauna could resist joining in on the creative fun.

The drawing incorporates critters and crawlies jamming in the Icelandic midnight sun. The performers are not all native to Iceland, to represent foreign performers who have migrated for the festival. Here’s the list of characters:

  • Fireflies represent the tech team and fringe volunteers, who shine a light on the performers

  • Bumblebee visual artist displays her work

  • Butterfly and Caterpillar circus act — picture a one time only transformation act

  • Peacock Spider represents the dancers and burlesque performers

  • Housefly, Beetle and Mouse form a band of musicians

  • While Junebug checks the rigging on their installation art for tomorrow’s performance.

Alternative colour palette design, which didn’t feel suited for the Icelandic midnight sun, but may suit a different season
